2020

Prompt developed over the course of a semester in a studio in Weimar, using found and discarded objects, three broken beds, a walking aid, and fragments of domestic furniture. Cameras were positioned across different parts of the studio, recording hours of repetitive actions: walking in place with the support of the found device, inhabiting the beds, and continuously rearranging the relationship between body, object, and space. The process was later opened to an audience as a three-day live performance.
At the centre of the work is a question: can repetition exhaust the gestures and expressions we have been taught? By performing simple actions automatically and for extended periods of time, Prompt tests whether the body can move beyond learned behaviour—or whether another set of gestures inevitably takes its place.
