The stage design for Boris Vian’s The Empire Builders creates a space that feels increasingly unstable and enclosed. Metal surfaces, ladders, chairs, ventilation tubes and worn objects form a fragmented domestic environment, where the familiar gradually becomes strange. The set reflects the play’s sense of displacement and collapse, as the characters are pushed through a space that seems to be closing in on them.
